DOUG BEASLEY
FOUR POINT
COCOBOLO AND CURLY MAPLE
Doug Beasley has done it again with this great-looking cue. It has a very traditional look, and the well-known and respected hit of a Beasley. It's hard to beat the combination of the two.
This stick is made from cocobolo and birdseye maple, with old-school inlaid propellers and copper dots. It's a subtle, straight-forward design done with great care and meticulous work we've come to expect from a Beasley cue.
I love the look of this cue. It's a very traditional design with bright, flame-like veneers and nicely selected woods. The cocobolo is dark and elegant, and the maple has eye-catching curls in it with lots of character.
Doug's work is always very tight with snug tolerances. His inlay work is consistently meticulous. Even with the scrutiny of a close-up camera lense you can hardly find a glue line.
The maple is very curly and shows well in the cue.
He alternates the large and small propeller inlays around the butt sleeve, and they are exquisite in this stick. They really show well against the dark cocobolo.
The points are very long, very sharp, and very even.
He wraps the handle with one of my favorite leathers, Spanish bull, in a stunning reddish-brown which matches the colors in the cue perfectly.
The front of the cue ties in flawlessly with the back of the cue, enhanced by his use of the same small propeller inlays that he used in the butt sleeve.
| |
These long elegant points flow gracefully through the stunning curly maple nose.
These veneers are radiant. He uses a combination of five layers, black, red, orange, yellow and natural maple. They all work together to effectively create the "flame" effect he was looking for.
| |
He finishes the butt sleeve by adding a black phenolic cap for good looks, but also for durability. And finally, as with all his cues, he inlays a small white oval with his "DB" logo engraved in it.
It comes with two of his 13mm premium maple shafts with LBM ferrules and Whitten layered medium tips. It weighs either 19.0 or 19.1 depending on which shaft is paired with it (15.3, 3.7, 3.8). It is 59 inches long, so if you like a bit more length in your cue, this one may appeal to you even more. It is built with a 3/8 X 10 modified steel pin in a flat-faced, black joint.
This is an excellent playing cue that will be admired everytime you take it from its case. He doesn't make a lot of cues and they're hard to obtain, so don't wait too long on this one!
