Richard Black ICCS Special Collection Cue
When this cue came up for auction as Richard Black's entry into this year's Special Collection, I couldn't resist a bid.  As with most of his cues, the artistry and creativity of the design just jumps out at you.  Since the theme of this year's collection was "The Burl Wood Collection", Richard blended a combination of different burls to build this unique cue.  Everything about this cue reeks of originality.  Richard named it Mélange, which is French for "a mixture."
Even the joint protector on this cue is unique.  It's difficult to conceptualize how he built it, but it matches the design of the cue perfectly.  Most cuemakers hate making joint protectors, but it's obvious from most of Richard's cues that he's not one of them.
The ivory joint is engraved with Richard's fancy, scrolled "RB", and the butt sleeve is engraved indicating it was part of the ICCS 2011 Special Collection.

Three different wood burls are combined to form this unique design.  Honduran Burl Rosewood is used in the  nose with flame veneers to outline points of Amboyna Burl.  The unique deco ring at the front and back of the handle area creates a very different point base.  Madrone burl is used in the handle areas and amboyna burl is used again in the deco ring and in the veneer bordered diamonds around ebony in the butt sleeve.
The joint and the butt plate are elephant ivory from tusks that Richard has had since the early 1980s.  The sterling silver collar rings at the joint are a design he has previously used when done in round shapes; however, this is the first time he has used it in square form.
This cue comes with two 13mm shafts with matching ringwork.  It is constructed with a 5/16 X 10 pin going into brass inserts, with a solid piloted ivory joint.  It also comes with a custom made black lizard print Ron Thomas case with a scrolled "B" embossed in the leather.  From the cue, to the joint protector to the case itself, this cue is all class.

Don't miss a chance to own a great cue by the most artistic and creative cuemaker of all time.  Price:  $6,000.
