ARIEL CARMELI
BOCOTE MERRY WIDOW

Here's a cue you don't often see from Ariel - a simple, traditional merry widow design.  He typically spends the majority of his time on higher end cues and I rarely get merry widows.  This one is really pretty, built from high quality bocote.

As usual, his wood selection is superlative.  This bocote has excellent color, grain and figure.  If a painter were to try and paint a beautiful piece of bocote, it would look something like this.

No matter which angle you view it from, it gives you a different look, and they're all beautiful.

Of course, he dresses it up a bit with the addition of some pretty ebony and white LBM slot rings, and uses them at all locations - above the butt cap, below and above the handle, at the joint and on the ring collars of the shafts.

He builds it with a black phenolic butt cap for durability, and matches its look with a black phenolic joint.

Some of the prettiest bocote I've seen ...

For the handle, he wraps it with a black scotch leather wrap with a mellow texture.  It feels good in the hand and looks great on the cue.  And, it will just get better with time and use.

I've always liked this traditional and classy ring pattern - two silver rings framing a ring of white LBM rectangles embedded in a ring of ebony.

Some additional views of this beautiful bocote...

The construction is his usual - a steel 3/8 X 10 pin in a flat faced joint.  It comes with two of his premium maple 13mm shafts with LBM melamine ferrules and Triangle medium hard tips.  It is 58 inches long and weighs 18.6 ounces (15.0, 3.6, 3.6).  His sticks are known for their excellent fit, tight tolerances and superb finish ... as well as their great, solid hit and outstanding playability.
