ARIEL CARMELI
COCOBOLO & MAPLE
FANCY FOUR POINT
WITH ABALONE INLAYS

Cues from the shop of Ariel Carmeli have always been in demand, but the last couple of years have seen a greatly increased call for more cues from this outstanding cue builder.  This cue is a good example of why that is true.

This one's made from very pretty cocobolo and birdseye maple.  It's a four pointer, using the cocobolo in the heavily inlaid butt sleeve and points, and the maple in the nose.

The butt sleeve is inlaid with white LBM ovals and lots of paui shell abalone.  Each piece of abalone is outlined in white LBM as well.  It's a complex design that has very popular for him, and he has used it several times, utilizing different combinations of colors and materials.

He uses a very dignified black and white dash ring, centered between two silver rings.  He uses it above the butt cap, below and above the wrap, at the joint and on the ring collars of the shafts.

The nose is of hard rock maple, with lots of birds eye grain, and a perfect contrast for the cocobolo in the points.

As always with Ariel's cues, the points are long, sharp, even and beautifully veneered.

In the base of each point he inlays a spearhead of abalone outlined in white LBM.

This butt sleeve design is world-class - well-conceived and perfectly executed.

The veneer colors are what is commonly referred to today as a "flame" veneer.  The individual colors are natural, orange, red and black.  Together, they are bright and crisp, and are always striking.

For the handle, he wraps it in a lavish black Spanish bull, which looks and feels good, and really fits perfectly with the rest of the stick.

This cocobolo is outstanding - pretty figure and rich, deep color.

At the joint he uses both black phenolic and white LBM.  It's a nice look especially when fitted with the shaft with a matching black collar and ring.

The inlay work is meticulous and tight, and the abalone is bright and colorful.

He builds it with his standard big 3/8X10 steel pin in a flat-faced joint.  It comes with two 13mm premium maple shafts with melamine ferrules and Triangle layered tips.  It weighs 19.2 ounces and is 58 inches long.
