COGNOSCENTI
Joe Gold was a top Chicago-area player for many years before becoming a cue maker. His sticks were the first to use the hard plastic resin pins that are now being used by a number of other cuemakers. According to Joe, this pin with a wood to wood joint is the closest thing to the hit you can only obtain with a one-piece cue.
|
| This cue was made by Joe in the mid-90's, and is beautiful example of his most traditional design. It's made of ivory, turquoise and silver in a rich ebony nose and butt. It's a three point up and down cue with the traditional Cognoscenti silver slotted rings above and below the wrap, at the joint, and above the butt cap. It has the traditional Cognoscenti flat-faced wood to wood joint with the "space age" resin pin.
|
It has two shafts with micarta ferrules (a Joe Gold requirement) and has a very smoothly pressed black Irish linen wrap with white speckles. It also comes with Joe's anodized aluminum black joint protectors.

| This is a beautiful cue that exemplifies the look that makes Cognoscenti cues so attractive, and the turquoise outlined in creamy white ivory combines to make the cue very striking. It's been played, and the shafts show some wear, but it's in excellent condition. Joe is still making a few cues, but not many, and since so many of his cues went overseas, they're a bit hard to find these days. Don't underestimate the demand for his cues -- at one world class tournament in Japan a few years ago, 33 of the 48 entered players were playing with Cogs!
