ED PREWITT FOUR POINT EBONY
| |
This is a very typical example of Ed Prewitt's work, who is known for his super-fancy ringwork. Almost all of his cues display his traditional rings containing very fancy small dots of naturally iridescent paua shell. (Paua shell is a natural product native to New Zealand.) They are very striking and add a lot to any cue. This one is a clean, classic design consisting of four points of ebony into a pretty piece of birdseye maple, with a plain, ebony butt sleeve.

This cue has some play on it, but is in great condition. The butt has been newly refinished (by Philippe) and has a new, textured black leather wrap. The shafts have been cleaned and are in good shape -- no dings or flaws. It has an ivory joint, and weighs about 19 ounces. The shafts measure just under 13mm and have ivory ferrules.
|
As with all Prewitts, his ringwork is just exceptional. Even on the simplest of cues, they add a huge amount of class. Pictures don't do this ringwork justice, as this abalone really shines and sparkles. It also comes with the custom engraved joint protector with the "EP" logo.

This cue really hits well, and will make a great player for someone who wants a classy cue by a "name" cuemaker. Prewitts aren't inexpensive, but nonetheless are very much in demand, and he seems to have no problem finding a quick market for everything he makes. This cue will be no exception. It is priced to move.

I've priced this cue at $2700, and expect it to move quickly. "Players" by Prewitt in this price range are already getting difficult to find, and he's trending towards making mostly higher-end cues, so their availability will not improve.
This cue looks really classy coming out of a black simulated ostrich Ron Thomas case.
