ROBERTO FRANCO
FOUR POINT EBONY
AND CURLY MAPLE WRAPLESS
Here is another very pretty cue from Roberto Franco in Dallas. After starting his cuemaking career with OB Cues ten years ago, Roberto opened his own shop in 2020. He is a full-time cue maker and his career trajectory continues to climb rapidly. Cues like this show why.
He uses splendid woods in this stick to make the most of the basic design - ebony in the butt sleeve, magnificent curly maple in the handle, with ebony points and a curly maple nose.
The quality of these woods is impressive. The ebony is nice and black, and the curly maple is as good as it gets - dazzling with all the curls and stripes.
A full-length shot of the entire cue ...
He builds a nice ringset using rectangles of the curly maple and uses it throughout the cue.
The long ebony points are handsome against the curly maple background, and the pretty veneer work really sets them off.
The points are sharp and even.
| |
The veneers are very appealing - a combination of black green, white, blue and white. The overall effect is primarily blue, and the result is radiant.
This curly maple in the handle and nose is stunning. You don't see wood quality like this often.
Everything comes together perfectly when this cue is finished.
| |
He adds a black phenolic joint to complement the black butt cap.
Another look at the fine work in this handsome cue.
| |
He uses a 3/8X10 modified steel pin in a flat-faced joint. It comes with one keelwood 13mm shaft with a short elforyn ferrel and a medium Thoroughbred tip. It is 58 inches long and weighs 19.2 ounces.
He builds it with an extension receiver so that an extension can be added later if wanted. And as a final touch he engraves his RF logo in the butt cap.
This is a very nice cue that will make someone a great playing stick.
