BOBBY HUNTER
4-PT AMBOYNA & EBONY CUE

As I said on a separate page, many of you know the name Bobby Hunter as a player, but in recent years this top competitor has also become well-known as a cuemaker. Even more recently, he has become known as a top cuemaker. I'm proud to a dealer for his cues, and happy to be able to make some of work available to Recollection Cues customers.
Bobby has had a reputation all along for making cues that really play well, but is now making some of the most intricately designed cues on the market, rivalling some of the work Black Boar is doing.
This stick is exceptional. It's not a complicated design, but the choice of woods, the attention to detail, and the great workmanship all come together, resulting in an outstanding cue.

Bobby starts this cue with a piece of sheer black ebony that is as pure and grain free as any I've ever seen. He then adds four beautiful points of beautiful amboyna burl in the nose with four matching rectangles of the same amboyna in the butt sleeve.

| Veneers in this cue would not only have been superfluous, they would have detracted from the sheer beauty created by the sharp contrast of the two elegant woods.

In each point and rectangle is an ivory diamond inlaid with superb precision. Again, I think they provide just enough detail relief without distracting from the cue's overall elegance.

As one of the finishing touchs on this cue he adds rings at the butt cap, above and below the wrap, at the joint and on the ring collars. Each ring is made up of 12 small squares of silver and they are really elegant. (Unfortunately, the silver doesn't show as well in these pictures as it does in the real cue.)

I like a lot of things about this cue, but one feature that I think is especially unique - and aesthetically pleasing - is the way Bob painstakingly matched the grain in the points as he build them. He took each one from a beautiful piece of highly figured burl - which isn't unusual - but then placed them so that the figure in the grain goes from point to point around the cue. That IS unusual.

He completes the details of this cue by adding a nicely textured black leather wrap (again, an unusual wrap that really feels good in the hand). He builds the joint with a 3/8X10 pin with a flat faced configuration, with a capped ivory joint. He didn't cut any corners with this cue - every detail was carefully thought through.

This cue comes with two 13mm shafts with ivory ferrules and tips. It weighs 19.7 ounces and has great balance. I think the quality of work in this cue, and its sheer elegance make it a bargain at $2850.
