DAVE KIKEL
20TH ANNIVERSARY
BOX SLEEVE CUE
This is another of Dave's fabulous 20th Anniversary cues. Although all of these cues have many things in common, they each have unique features - different woods in the points and inlays, for the most part. However, this one is more different than most - instead of reverse points going into the butt sleeve, he uses an overlapping veneered box pattern that is truly beautiful.
This one uses the same ring pattern, with the same woods, as all the other Anniversary cues - the same woods as in the veneers, which are also the same in each cue. They are really classy, bright and unusual.
This one is one of my favorites of the Anniversary cues I've seen. I love the overlapping box design, and think the purpleheart looks great.
Each large box contains an ivory diamond and two ivory dots. The smaller "recessed" boxes are reversed. They are each of ivory, with diamonds and dots of purpleheart.
You'll note that this one is also different in that Dave used purpleheart in the point and the boxes in the butt sleeve. He's made three of these cues with the overlapping boxes, but in the others used different kinds of burl woods, so this is the only one with purpleheart. It is Number 15, and this one has one other unique feature - he has engraved his familiar "KQ" logo on both sides of the butt cap, 180 degrees from each other. This is the only cue he has ever done this on.
He applies a beautiful black lizard wrap that is the perfect addition to the cue. It looks and feels great.
As with all the Anniversary cues, he adds a gorgeous set of custom joint protectors with his "KQ" logo on the top. On the pin protector, he adds the matching ringwork from the cue.
As with all Kikels, the work in the cue is meticulous, accurate and virtually perfect. One of the things I like best about representing Dave is that when I get a cue from him I always know before I even get it out of the package that it will be perfect. He is as careful with his work as anyone I know in the business.
This one weighs 19.0 ounces, and comes with two 13mm shafts of Dave's special wood that has gone through a 15 year aging and cutting process. He built it with a piloted ivory joint, and an ivory butt cap. There were no corners cut on this one. It is topped with ivory ferrules and Tiger tips. No matter how you view this cue, it is an outstanding piece of work.
