JIM MURNAK
2 x 4 BROWN LEATHER CASE
WITH FANCY POCKET ZIPPERS

For someone looking for an especially high quality case that's hard to find, here's a great option.  Made by Jim Murnak in New York, these cases have always been in demand.  He is much more well-known for his high quality custom gun holsters, but made a number of cases before quitting a few years back.

There were a number of special things about his cases, but one of the most important was the use of very high quality leather - something you don't find in most cue cases.

I was originally a dealer for Jim back in the early 2000s, but they were always hard to get, and eventually he just stopped making them.  I saw something on a blog back in 2021 in which he said he was going to start taking a few orders again, but I don't know if this is happening, and he always had a long wait-list, mostly because cases of this quality are hard and slow to make.

This is his classic design - a 2 X 4 in smooth brown leather with lots of individual pockets.

The other thing that was totally unique to his cases was the use of diagonal pocket zippers.  Each pocket is individually lined.  There are several for odds and ends, a top pocket for chalk and joint protectors, a long side pocket (13") for a jump butt, and under it all, another individuall lined long pocket for whatever.  Once you remember where you put everything, it really helps you get organized, and you'll know where all your accessories are.  (The front pocket, in total is 24" long.)

Another great feature of his cases are the straps.  He was one of the first to incorporate double "back pack" straps on his cases.  And like a lot of things, he did it best - simple the best padded shoulder pads I've seen on any case, anywhere.

He uses a flip back top pocket with a convenient thumb-twist clasp.  And, it has a heavy duty handle on top for very convenient carry.

Throughout the case, he uses high quality brass hardware.

He uses five durable hard plastic "legs" on the bottom to protect the case from the floor.  This picture is a bit deceptive because of the angle from which I took it, and makes the legs look disproportionately spaced.  Actually, they are evenly distributed, with two on the back so when you lean the case against a table or a wall it balances well and doesn't rock.

As typical on his cases, he signs it on the back near the bottom.

Jim uses fabric-lined tubes for the interior.  It's a nice, light interior that provides good protection for your cues along with easy access.  It also helps keep his cases as light as possible, a strong consideration if you're an everyday, travelling player - and with the comfortable back straps, this is a great choice for the serious player.

These cases are hard to find in any condition, but finding one like this in brand new condition is almost impossible.  The person who bought this one obviously knew he had something special, and put it away in a closet and never used it.  It has been kept in "like new" condition.
