SHELBY WILLIAMS
TULIPWOOD FOUR POINT
WITH BRIDGED EBONY POINTS,
VENEERED WINDOWS AND SILVER INLAY

Here is a dazzling stick from the shop of Shelby Williams of Texas.  I'm very happy to be a dealer for Shelby, representing some of the best-built and prettiest cues on the custom market.  This one is special, with beautiful woods, gorgeous veneers and lots of extra features.

One of the "star" features of this cue is the stunning tulipwood.  It sets the stage for all other great things to come.

He starts with ebony points that get longer and longer as he adds various layers of veneer.

Then he adds large ebony windows in the butt sleeve with matching colors of veneer.

Then, he goes "no holds barred" on this cue, building it with bridged points.

The veneer work throughout this stick is radiant, in the points and around the windows in the butt sleeve.

Not only are the colors striking, but the bridged veneer work at the base of the points adds a refined, classy look.

He does a very classy inlay pattern in each of the windows, utilizing a white LBM notched diamond with silver dots and bars.

There's a lot of extra detail work in this cue.

His selection of veneer colors give this stick an overall "blue" effect, using medium blue, dark blue, light blue and white veneers.  They are framed on the outside with a very thin layer of black paper, while between each layer of veneer is a thick layer of black paper, enhancing the effect of each individual color and giving each layer a distinct look.

Then, of course, you can never talk about a Shelby cue without mentioning the rings.  His cues are known for their unique and detailed ringwork, and this one is no exception.

I like it when a cue - when viewed fully and from a distance - all comes together nicely with all the elements working together to create a beautiful stick.

The veneer work, accentuated by the use of black paper, is very handsome in this stick.  It is added work for the cue maker, but it pays dividends in the final result.

These rings are gorgeous, and he's not selfish in using them, adding them at four locations.  Each ring is made up of two rows of silver dots bordering a ring of white LBM notched diamonds.

Here's a great look at this superlative veneer work.

He uses a really handsome textured black leather wrap that looks a lot like elephant, but is not.  It feels good in the hand and has a bit of sheen to it, adding to the great look of the stick.

And another closeup of the veneer work ...

He adds a white LBM ring just above the black ebony butt cap, with his signature engraved in it.  He also adds a classy set of joint protectors with a brass ring on the top of each, with the Shelby name engraved.

              Very refined joint
                protectors ...

He builds it with a steel 3/8X10 pin in a flat-faced joint.  It comes with two of his 13mm premium maple shafts with short Juma ferrules and Thoroughbred medium tips.  It weighs either 18.8 or 19.2 depending on which shaft is used (15.2, 3.7, 4.1) and is 58 inches long.

This is an elegant cue in a traditional design, with lots of extras.  And it's from one of the best cue makers of the current generation.  His cues are hard to come by, and he has about a two-year wait list for custom orders.  Here's a chance to have one in your hands within a couple of days!
