TASCARELLA FOUR POINT

Cues by Pete Tascarella have been quite the rave the last few years, and for the most part have been a bit hard to come by.  With his son helping him in recent months production seems to have picked up and  there are finally starting to be some available for those of us who are not "insiders."  He is known for his traditional designs, meticulous execution and cues that hit and play well.

This is a very typical example of his work.  It is clean, traditional and classic.  I've had opportunities to buy several of his cues lately, but was waiting for one that stood out from the others.  This one has very pretty wood, nice veneers, a gorgeous curly maple nose, and an outstanding wrap.  It's one of the finest examples of his work that I've seen in a cue in this price range.

One thing I really liked about this cue was the outstanding piece of curly maple he used for the nose.  I heard several people refer to it as "Tiger" maple, which indicates that it's not just your ordinary, run-of-the-mill curly maple.  It's difficult to get pictures that show just how pretty it is, but it's gorgeous.

This is a traditional four point cue with cocobolo points and butt sleeve.  It has very pretty veneers of maple, orange, brown and black.  They're very sharp and even, which you would expect in a Tascarella.  His work is always clean.

He uses a classic design of notched diamonds and dots, all of gold-lipped mother of pearl.  They really go well against the cocobolo.

Another great feature of this cue is the wrap.  I can't tell if it's real elephant or a simulated elephant, but regardless, it has a nice, soft feel to it and looks great.  And, the color is perfect for this cue - it's a nice deep brown that goes perfectly.

He uses brown phenolic rings at the joint, with nickel silver rings built into them.  They match the stainless steel joint well.  He built this one with a piloted joint, using a 5/16X14 pin.  At the butt, he uses a white phenolic cap.

This is probably the prettiest Tascarella I've seen in this price range.  Everything really comes together on it to make it special.  It comes with two 13mm shafts with ivory ferrules and LePro tips.  It weighs 19.6 ounces.

PRICE:  $4250
