This was one of
the first of Tim's higher end cues; it was obtained through the late
Bob Huddleston in St. Louis, who at that time was one of Tim's first
dealers. It's such an early Scruggs cue that at the time he wasn't
even putting his initials in the butt cap. It's a classic four point
cue, with ebony points into beautiful birds eye maple with a piloted
stainless steel joint.
|
The points are
outlined with four color wood veneers, and the points are a typical
Scruggs design -- blocked above the wrap. Worthy of note is the fact
that even in the beginning, Tim's points were all razor sharp and
exactly the same length. Most cue makers don't achieve this quality in
their early cues. This one also has razor blade shaped ivory inlays
centered between thin maple rings in the ebony butt sleeve.

This stick has three shafts -- two originals and one made by Jim Buss in St. Louis. All have ivory ferrules. It was purchased in 1981 and played with for many years before being restored to excellent condition by Jim Buss in 1993. It now resides in a unique 1x3 smooth black leather case custom made by Dan Whitten. (NOTE: This cue is highly collectible, being one of Scruggs' very first, but can be a great player at the same time.)
